今天再來和大家分享一個申請碩班適用的獎學金：英國的Chevening Scholarships。
大家都知道讀碩班獎學金機會很少，學校提供的獎學金不多，台灣公費或政府的獎學金也多半以博班為主。因此看到專門給碩班的獎學金往往讓人立刻眼睛一亮。和台達荷蘭環境獎學金一樣，Chevening Scholarhips 也是支持前往特定國家、特定議題的碩士獎學金。
Chevening 獎學金的宗旨和申請資格都可以參考獎學金官網。獎學金旨在支持未來的領導人才在英國完成一年制的碩班學業，並特別規定申請人「必須」要有兩年的工作經驗。由此可知領導力和實務經驗是獎學金審核的重點，這也反應在申請獎學金的四個essays 題目中。底下就以我成功幫助同學完成申請文書進入面試的經驗，簡單說一下這四題答題的重點與可以切入的面向。
＊底下的題目是前一兩年的，算是考古題吧，今年的題目也許會調整，但應該不會變化太大＊
1. Leadership and Influence: Chevening is looking for individuals who will be future leaders or influencers in their home countries. Explain how you meet this requirement, using clear examples of your own leadership and influencing skills to support your answers.
本題的重點是要以「具體的例子」證明自己的領導力與影響他人的能力。例子必須要始末完整，有足夠的細節。此外，透過領導力所達成的目標也很重要。如果只是為了滿足自己或身邊小團體的利益或興趣，貢獻當然較小；故理想的目標一定是something bigger than oneself，能替團體乃至於社群帶來正面影響的理念與實踐。這是此題作答時常被人忽略的重點。
Networking: Chevening is looking for individuals with strong professional relationship building skills, who will engage with the Chevening community and influence and lead others in their chosen profession. Please explain how you build and maintain relationships in a professional capacity, using clear examples of how you currently do this and outline how you hope to use these skills in the future.
Chevening Scholarships 找的不是聰明、有能力，但獨善其身的人，而是能連結眾人，尋求資源，擴大個別影響力，達成更大目標的未來領導者。此題除了和第一題一樣要提具體的例子，重點在建立人際連結的脈絡與方式必須是professional ，也就是說兒時玩伴、鄰居閨蜜等人際關係就不能算數。必須是在專業範疇中認識、拓展的人際關係才能著墨。
Studying in the UK: Outline why you have selected your chosen three university courses, and explain how this relates to your previous academic or professional experience and your plans for the future. Please do not duplicate the information you have entered on the work experience and education section of this form.
這題算是四題中相對來說比較直接容易回答的一題，和寫SoP一樣，不需要吹捧學校的名聲，而是強調自己與program 之間一對一的契合。此外由於申請的是英國政府的獎學金，故也要說明為何選擇英國，說明英國在自己專業領域中的優勢。
Career Plan: Chevening is looking for individuals who have a clear post-study career plan. Please outline your immediate plans upon returning home and your longer term career goals. You may wish to consider how these relate to what the UK government is doing in your country.
此題首先需要「接地氣」，因為獎學金得主依規定需回國服務，因此畢業後的生涯規劃需要與在地連結。再者，本題需回歸leadership 的主題，當然畢業兩三年後的短期目標，也許不太可能立刻成為專業領域中的領導人物，但長期目標是可以展望的。本題也需呼應上一題的學習目標，從就學規劃延伸到職涯規劃，相輔相成。最後，所謂取之於社會，用之於社會，故本題也要提及未來將如何回饋英國政府與Chevening community ，藉此再次強調自己是最值得Chevening 投資的申請人。
